Ok, with MWNY looming ever closer and my hardware upgrade on the cards, anyone have an inkling as to what we're likely to see from Apple? Don't be shy; G5s? 1.4GHz G4s? Quad MP GHz powerhouses? 533MHz buses and DDR?

Time to break out your rumor site tidbits for a bit of an airing.

Here's a starter for 10; I think a new range of tower mobos with 266MHz DDR and 133MHz ATA interface.

Anyone care to have a punt?

Well, I think that if it is just G4's, then dual 1.4ghz at the top, with 933 at the bottom. Perhaps all dual like they did 2 years ago. I still don't understand why they don't do that again!

What I'm really hoping for is G5's. What I hope doesn't happen is the old Yikes where they put the G5 chip in a G4, spank it's bottom and call it a G5!

you know what? I don't read rumor sites all that much... I just stick to MacMinute... they've always been accurate with their predictions, er... news....

So what do the rumor sites say?

"Great necessities call out for great virtues."
--Abigail Adams
I have my suspicions that the iBook is going to go G4 at MWNY. Except for the CRT iMacs, it's the only model not running on a G4. I have a feeling too that there will not be a G5 this summer, although that has more to do with Motorola's time-line for G4 development than with the logic of Apple's computers. In fact, given that the difference between the top of the line iMac and the bottom of the line PM is in upgradability rather than processor speed (with some adjustments, I know), were it just Apple, I'd say the G5 would be coming this summer. If there's no G5, I'd probably agree with your 1.4 GHz prediction, MachOne. And I do think that DDR is on the way, but don't know what speed is likely.

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

Currently the rumors sites are predicting an iBook upgrade (but pre MWNY), Specs for the rack mount servers DDR etc. and also given that the rackmounts will have DDR they are predicting the towers will get it at MWNY.

“Here can be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea. An iBook upgrade? DDR RAM? A faster bus? Boy, even the rumours are boring!! Unless something big has been developed under cover it looks to me like more of the same but slightly better... somehow. I suspect Jobs is reserving MWNY for a big splash for OSX 10.2 ("Jaguar"), which is basically, more of the same, but slightly better.

Of course if Himself announces a 2 Ghz tower, I didn't say any of this.

John
[color:red]I don't need...
