What a great accomplishment of the SpaceX team!
And what an exciting event to watch!
It just sent shivers ‘up and down’ my spine!
A Tesla car on Mars? Unbelievable! shocked

Yes that was so cool to watch. I guess they stuck the landing on the boosters but the center core had some problems.

CNN just had a live interview with Elon Musk that will probably be online soon.

BTW the Tesla is just going into orbit around the sun, they’re not allowed to land on Mars. There’s some international law about not contaminating planets with microbes from earth.

I must have misunderstood the commentator in my excitement. grin
But it would have been great advertisement for the brand. grin
From what I read later, this car and ‘Starman’ could end up in space for a long time.

Unfortunately it won't. Scientists believe that radiation will tear the car into pieces within a year. At least that's what I read on several websites.

do you think the microbes would survive months in space?... vacuum, radiation, desiccation...

I'm very skeptical, but I understand their concerns... once you did that- you can't close that can of worms ! eek
