I know this is a HOT TOPIC .... but it's ridiculous that so many powerful weapons are "legal". Sure someone intent to kill can do it with a knife or pistol... but not wound 400 and kill 50+. Smaller clips means you have to stop and reload.... opportunity to be taken down or out...
There has to be a stop to the insanity or we'll see even more... and likely WORSE ! BTW where was the citizen packing heat to save the day? Thank you NRA !!
19 weapons in his room... so where were hotel security and the surveillance cameras ? ... What would background checks have done to prevent this? Yes he might be legal, but wouldn't it sound off bells if someone purchased 19 weapons over a short period ? (even months) Course it might not have too,... but if background checks stops even ONE of these tragedies, it's worth the effort ! IMHO... ASK 58 families !
I fail to understand why someone can buy an automatic weapon so easily in this country. Or, why would anyone need a weapon of this type? Hunting, protection? Incidents like this will occurr again and again, I’m afraid, because the NRA will stifle any gun control legislation.
AND I was reminded of this today... many want to make it LEGAL to have silencers. Can you imagine the Scene if NO one would have heard the shots for many minutes?? These gun freaks are nuts !... NOT talking about all gun owners, but just the one who want extremes...i.e. semi and fully automatic weapons, silencers, NO background checks, NO restrictions what so ever... the NRA fanatics... NO you can't defend your home with a NUKE ! ...and we're not allowing concealed carry with an ICBM !
“In Paddock's 32nd-floor hotel suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, police recovered 23 weapons, including a handgun, and multiple rifles -- some had scopes on them. Authorities also found several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used to make explosives, in his car.”—
None of those ‘background checks’ noticed that this lunatic purchased a small arsenal with which he could have outfitted a small army?
I don't know the answer Mike, but when a background check is done to purchase a weapon.... does the system keep track of how many weapons he bought over time or that he's just cleared to buy one? If it doesn't keep a count, then that is a serious breach in the system. At least it would have alerted authorities, this guy is stockpiling weapons... is he a gun collector or what? Maybe they could have checked him out?
I still want to know ..WHAT did security cameras in the hotel show, or didn't show. HOW was he able to amass 23 weapons in his room? Were there people asleep at the security monitors? LOTS of Questions !
