BTW Out of all the times everyone has reported the DRAMATIC Explosions, and BILLOWING Smoke, I've YET TO HEAR Anything about These Chemicals adding to The DEADLY POLLUTION The Residents AND Rescue Workers are (and will continue to) Wade Thru! (Not to mention PERMANENTLY Soak Into The Soil, and Like Fukushima, FLOW Into THE GULF Effecting AMERICA'S FOOD SUPPLY for DECADES.
I have a BIG question.... one explosion was due to the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide in a large tank that had to be cooled to keep it stable. H2O2 is moderately unstable, but in the concentrations they use - 30%- (10X what you get at the store)- it is a very hazardous chemical. It instantly oxidizes anything it comes in contact with. Get it on your skin and it burns and turns your skin white. Must use safety goggles to work with. Very BAD stuff ! as bad as sulfuric acid ! ( I've worked with it! )
So it if has to be kept cool- esp in the Houston heat- WTF did they not have a gas generator hooked up to the cooling unit so if they lost power - they could prevent said explosion ?? They're lucky in one respect- that it didn't BLOW UP when workers were around and kill a bunch of them. (BTW- we kept our small bottle in the fridge! Cap had a pressure valve so if the pressure inside the bottle got too great- it'd release the pressure.... another SAFETY precaution! )
This is an example where there should BE REGULATIONS ! But the GOP and blowhards like Trump and Cruz will say "It's a big burden on your businesses" ! Well how much of a burden is it for a widow who loses her husband when it could have been totally avoided ??
Look for future environmental / industrial disasters if they loosen regulations. Trump - the Valdez President !
I've already laid claim to the fact that Celandine GREW UP WITHIN The BOUNDS of An INDUSTRIAL PARK onna'counta' my father being the Chief Maintenance Person (Head Welder, Head Electrician, Head Mechanic) of a HUGE Chemical Plant (that was since declared A SUPER FUND SITE. under President Jimmy Carter.
long story I won't burden you with...suffice to say; The CHEMICALS that "IMPROVE Our Lives" are no larfing matter.
