:)so every year I head out to a huge five day car show in Salina Kansas, four days of car fun and this year was no exception, picked up my car show buddy and headed west thru Missouri and in to Kansas on US Highway 54...we are driving along and the battery light comes on, we have a problem either the battery or the alt is going bad, pulled over to the side of the road and looked at both...like we could tell anything just by looking so we got back in the car and took off for the nearest town to find a parts store....nearest town was Iola Kansas, about twenty miles away...you may remember that Iola KS was where MrB lived, I had visited with him a couple of times when we when thru there on car show trips during previous adventures but I did not know my way around town except that Highway 54 ran right thru the middle of Iola
We got to the outskirts of Iola and I started to question out loud where was the nearest auto parts store...and a little voice whispered in my ear....AutoZone...one block past the square, over one block....you will see it... ask my buddy what he had said and he said he and not said anything....strange happening number one....got to the AutoZone store and they checked the battery and alt...had a bad diode in the alt they had an alt to fit the car. While we were in the store got to talking to the store manager...who knew Mr.B...strange happening number two.....
While we carry some tools with us on the car trips we did not have what we needed to get the alt off and reinstall a new one, the store manager suggested a couple of garages in Iola, but they could not get to the car that day and we would have to stay over night in Iola. About then a former AutoZone employee came into the store, who happened to be a mechanic, said he could put the alt on in the parking lot, take about half hour...so he parked his truck beside our car, started to working on it, I noticed he even had a little child with him, no problem child slept thru the entire event....but....strange happening number three.....the mechanic knew MrB too.....Repairs made we were back on the road in no time...and I could not help but think MrB was watching out for us...so Thanks for whispering in my ear and all the help you sent MrB
i understand why MrB liked Iola KS, great looking town, not too big and the downtown square looks 1901, old buildings were kept up and are cool, the town square is a plot of grass with buildings along side of it
