I have been prompted several times to switch. Calling from my house where I have never had a connection issue. Each time it prompts I look at my signal. 2 bars/circles. WTF? Also be aware of issues with 911 calls.
Which is why you are required to give an exact address in order to turn on wifi calling. Not that this helps if you aren't home.
I think it also depends on where you live and your coverage. Here, my phone knows where I am within a few feet. Seems like they should have access to that info. If my Maps can tell where I am... then the phone should be made so they can access that info too.
