Are the photos in iPhoto stored somewhere? And if so, where?

Pictures/iPhoto Library. Control click to Show Package Contents. You really shouldn't mess inside the package though. What is it you're trying to do?

Dr John.. Apple has now made it very difficult for the average user to find their own photos on their Mac/Photos.
