OK-

Loving OS X very much, BUT I hate it that my Quicktime won't play .AVI movies...whenever I get one I'm told that Quicktime is lacking extension to open movie and it's not available at the Quicktime Server.

SO, what can I do to get AVI movies to play in Quicktime?

AVI movies will play with Quicktime, but not all AVIs are encoded with a supported codec, therefore, not all AVIs will play with Quicktime...

That's the case in both OS X and classic, and its been a long standing issue with me and anything that's not a .mov file...

Where did you get the AVIs and what codec did they use to encode the video?

"Great necessities call out for great virtues."
--Abigail Adams
I thought I had the same problem with OS9, just tried to convince myself not...

Where would I find the codec information?
Can I set up a way for my computer to note which codec it is and open it with another play like Media Player (barf!)?

2roads

There are a couple of OS X apps you can try. Nothing works with every codec.
