I just now updated to Windows 10 using the existing BootCamp drivers ...

Everything on the MacPro seems fine so far *except* the video drivers don't work (and apparently the dual FirePro setup in the MacPro is so specialized that even AMD's own brand-new Win10 drivers don't work either). So the only resolution available is 1920 x 1080, which looks stretched and horrible on my display -- bordering on unusable. Also, the BootCamp control panel is nowhere to be found, so rebooting into OS X might required the option key at restart ...

Other than that, everything else seems to work okay so far, but I'm gonna stay away until Apple releases updated drivers =)

We use Win7 and Win8 pro at work. I don't care for Win8 and have reservations about Win10.

We won't upgrade for awhile until we know all the bugs for LabDAQ on it is resolved (if there's any...I don't know)

OH...wait..you have the newest type of MacPro??

Yeah.. what he said.. you have one of the new ones??? Droool.
I still haven't been able to justify the purchase, mostly because my Mac Pro is still alive and kicking.

Yes, one of the trashcan MacPros =)

From the reviews I've read, most are recommending updating to 10, since it does represent a definite improvement over 7 and 8 in many respects, but waiting to do so for a few months while MS works-out all the bugs people are finding. (Some suggest that the staged rollout is not only for logistic purposes, but so that MS could roll it out to the geeky crowd first and essentially post-beta test things before releasing it to the madding crowds).

Obviously as regards BootCamp, much depends on Apple and how it rolls-out drivers. My guess is that it'll wait until things become a bit more stable on MS's side of things. So we probably won't see a revised BootCamp for a few months. (I think support for 8 took, what, six months or something?)

Anyways, fun to play with, since I don't do any mission-critical stuff in windows on this machine =)

In the process of ghosting a spare HP laptop, in case I or it doesn't like 10.

My guess is anybody wise enough to know how to bypass authentication wouldn't try 10, but you can't fix stupid.

From what I've read one cause is Language/Locale settings.

For those that want to burn a DVD or USB stick and DIY;

Handy to have around anyway.

This is interesting:
Why this Windows 10 feature is freaking everyone out

Quote:
Windows 10 includes a new feature called Wi-Fi Sense, which is making some folks uneasy.
Wi-Fi Sense allows you to automatically log your friends onto your Wi-Fi network without ever giving them your password. It's a convenient solution to the awkward "what's your Wi-Fi password?" conversations.

Not sure what to think of this...could be bad, could be good.

That's the method I used -- it worked great with BootCamp Assistant making the USB installer. If you have multiple machines it will beat a 3+GB download each time =)

Other than WiFi Sense… what other great NEW features does it have?
Anything Apple should be concerned with ?

Is there a Windows 9 ?
Seems I hear a lot about Win 7 and Win 8…but not much on 9. OR did MS skip 9 so they could compete marketing with OS X ?? whistle

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't keep up with anything about Windows.
(well except double vs single paned..) wink

Nope, they skipped 9 and went straight to stealing 10.

So far so good, the interface is much better than 8. Kind of a melding of 7 and 8, the desktop is always there, still getting used to the Start menu but at least it's back full-time.

The look of the icons etc is pretty nice. Better than Yosemite's flat look IMO.

Never thought I'd be praising Windows. crazy

Somebody stop me! grin
