My MacBook Pro 5,5 has finally gotten badly hurt the other day. Water got spilled on the keyboard. Not so much a huge loss since the battery doesn't hold a charge, half of the keyboard was dead and you have to play with the charger to work right. So I am going to turn it into a all-in-one desktop. I would love to toss it into the iMac G5 case I have sitting in the corner but the LCD isn't big enough but I do have some acrylic sheets that I kept from dismantling LCD screens.

So far I found the pads to make the motherboard turn on so I just need to wire up a Mon-SPST switch. I took apart the dead battery to find the pinout so I can power devices from the charger or maybe even build a new battery from scratch and make the thing portable or use it for a UPS. Reuse the keyboard backlighting to light up the case. Add a fan to suck in cool air to help out the main blower fan. I'm too scared to take apart the LCD since I would need a heat gun to remove the LCD panel glass to get to the LCD panel. However I found a old touch screen diffuser that fits the LCD so all I would need is a controller for it that only costs about 30 bucks. Basiclly in all the system will be sandwitched between two acrylic panels with some mesh or wood in between.

I'm on a week long vacation.

I went ahead and took the LCD apart. Tomorrow i'll start slapping the case together. Hoprfully I can use some window cleaner and a razor blade to remove the reflection crap off one of the sheets of acrylic with out scratching it up.

Alright, here are some pics. Nothing major but progress.

Camera with wire harness. The harness also connects to the WiFi/bluetooth module.

Motherboard to the MacBook.

LCD panel

Mock hardware layout. No need for a optical drive. Might hook up a second hard drive for more storage.

I was going to more on it yesterday but my brother wanted me to help him go car shopping. Waiting on the misses to get home so I can go to the store and buy a few items to start the build.

Ended up wet sanding the acrylic to get the stuff off. Came out well with 1000 and 1200 grit paper. I drilled and tapped the LCD mounts. Comes in handy to keep M3 machine screws around.
