R&D.
That's what I don't get. Apple spent much less than MS during Steve's return.
"Invest in R&D when the economy is down", or something like that.
Apple is now the richest corp in the world.
The days when I used to get excited for an update are long gone.

Roger that. That's why I'm still on Snow Leopard on my 2 main machines.
Only upgrading since Safari is forcing me to... and another couple of reasons.
Mavericks on the 3 other Macs.

But Safari still doesn't support HTML 5. WTF?

Safari does support HTML5, just not every feature of it ...

HTML5test.com scores Safari at 396 out of a possible 555 points, which is second-to-last, beating out only IE in terms of feature support. Not a great showing, but HTML5 *is* supported, at least to an extent ...

Yeah.. I went back and reread that after I posted.. but thought.. Meh, they'll know what I meant.
Suck ass performance from the company that bashed Flash and thereby implied HTML 5 was the future.

For Apple being the pioneers of wanting to dump Flash, at one point Jobs said that Flash caused something like 80% of the crashes in Safari, it's ironic that they rate that low. Not very impressed with development when companies with much less in resources can make a much better product.

I wonder if some of that has to do with Apple developing so many different pieces of software, in addition to the OS itself. Is it coincidental that the only browser that has worse support is made by the only other company on the list that develops a desktop OS, among other things?

Regardless, "Jack of all trades, master of none," certainly comes to mind regarding Apple software these days. Maybe they should split the software and hardware sides into separate companies? Or, maybe at least the "pro" apps, so that software doesn't go completely down the tubes ...

Granted a lot of it is probably shielded off shore, but IMO they need to spend some of that $200B they've collected from us, to make this stuff "just work."

Whether it involves separate divisions like you mentioned, or just a better R&D I don't know, but as one that deals with a wide variety of their products on a daily basis, "ain't it time somebody finally does somethin'" is my opinion.

I just feel that we're all kind of being taken for a ride with them not investing more of our dollars back into the product.
