Actually it is the first time in my life the whole holiday period won't even have one 45°C day in it.

Vast difference between 45º Here & 45º There:
45ºF (7.22ºC) is coat & scarf weather
45ºC (115ºF) is enough for the snags to cook themselves!

Drones are quickly flying to the top of Christmas wishlists for 2014 despite growing privacy and safety concerns. But what do the kangaroos in Hunter Valley, Australia make of all this? A video has emerged from the moment a drone flew near to a group of kangaroos. Just as the flying camera gets up close, one kangaroo decided enough was enough, leapt up, and dealt a knock out blow to the drone. The footage was rescued but the drone is now beyond repair.

Mama Roo protecting her half grown Joey who's
a bit too large to seek shelter in her pouch...
She treated the drone the same as she would a
wedgetail eagle coming after her baby...

That pic is just being hosted on my site, I don't have all of the original stuff, ornamets etc. It would take some photoshopping.

G4 has all the original stuff, ornament template, dove, tree etc. I asked a few years back if he could send it to me but he never did. I'll try again.

I sure hope my Christmas Day is better than my Christmas Eve. Starting about 7:00 last night I started to get sick with upset stomach and several vomitings. Not pleasant .

Feel much better this morning but am not going to stray away from my bucket. Good thing I have no plans for today. Was planning a dinner for Sunday but am seriously thinking against that now.

But Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all

No, no white Christmas this year. Makes me sad too. I suppose it was great for those who traveled, but I always hope for snow at Christmastime. Maybe next year.

Well we call them boomers and there is a song, Six White Boomers which talks about snow and white and all sorts of bollocks that simply doesn't happen here in the hot summer. so go figure. Think Santa doesn't know what's south of the equator.

Merry Christmas folks. Don't plan on much here in my casa today. One of my daughters came over with her family Tuesday when we had the least stressful dinner of all. We just called in our desires at the local Mexican restaurant. Sent someone to pick up and had a forest feast. That and Homemade pie of course and queso for dipping.

We had a simple gift exchange. I gave everyone an Amazon gift card. My granddaughter got a Fannie Farmer cook book. Think she will find it interesting as she likes to cook. Very good actually.

My daughter gave me a pencil. Just a lead pencil. She said the Apple Pencil was on back order. Will come later I guess.

Hope all yo folks have a grand day.

Dave

That was the FIRST Meal I ever prepared for Ted (40 odd years ago)
Doano if you appreciate that it takes 2-3 days to create a bona fide
Julia Child-type Beef Wellington..but when he covered it with Catsup
I SHOULD HAVE handed him his hat and coat right then and there.

Oh wow. wow and wow what a fantastic image ...camouflage personified... the tree becomes the bird the bird becomes the tree....I'm just guessing here.. a relative of a owl...hawk ? At first look I thought I was looking at a sloth that had just taken a mud bath....saw the head then the feet...talons then I saw the feathers....it doesn't look small either
so interesting...waiting to find out the name....did you take the picture ?
Glad to see you had a wee small gift of rain....very painful to read about the wildfires in your country and the loss of homes and wildlife....hopefully dear Peter you and yours stay safe.

Tawny Frogmouths. With their nocturnal habit and owl-like appearance, Tawny Frogmouths are often confused with owls but are members of the nightjar family and are more closely related to kookaburras and kingfishers than to owls.
For those who know them well their hoom hoom sound of them in the evening is a welcome sound. For others it may be a hair raising experience. Tawny frogmouths have a wide range of vocalisations that can signal information about sex, territory, food, or predators. They generally use low amplitude and low frequency sounds to communicate though some of their warning screams can be heard for miles. Nestlings make a number of unique calls expressing distress, hunger, and fear. Juveniles retain this range while developing a loud call for begging. Nestlings, juveniles, and adults all use a low amplitude annoyance call meant for family members. When disturbed during rest, tawny frogmouths can emit a soft warning buzz that sounds similar to a bee and when threatened, they can make a loud hissing noise and produce clacking sounds with their bill. Here's a baby calling for food. Tawny frogmouths are large, big-headed birds that can measure from 34 to 53 cm (13 to 21 in) long. Weights have been recorded of up to 680 g (1.50 lb) in the wild.

Yes I took the photo. There were five birds in all, setting out to take the kids to their first Christmas dinner by the looks. Celandine was correct when she said build it and they will come. There were no trees here when I arrived, now there is a forest.

The wee gift of rain became a larger gift. I ended up with 23 mm, just shy of the old inch. This rain also saved many of the homes from burning in the fires. Meanwhile the north of the country is under water. I see that the USA is also feeling the wrath of mother nature and that England is too.

What a picture...it amazed me...what a wonderful gift to be there and to see them in person and to get such a fantastic picture.Yes I did think it was a member of the owl family....I think it should have a more distinguished name not to crazy about the frogmouth moniker wink
I could listen to them hoom hoom all night...we have hoot owls here and it is wonderful to hear them,,,,I love the sounds of the morning doves too...hell I just love birds... grin You should be so proud to be the creator of such a beautiful environment for your feathered
flock's and wildlife.....we love our trees and the creatures of the woods also...Australia has some of the most interesting fauna and wildlife...such a wonderful country with such interesting creatures.
I wish I could send you some rain we have had nothing but rain for almost the last two weeks...pray the trees stay up surrounding the house....I want sun and you need rain... life is a funny trip for sure crazy Thanks for all the info again...like I told Cel love love love those froggy birds smile wink

As you may imagine, since tourists get confused about the sleepy vegetarian Koala. They call them koala Bears with complete lack of reading skills. So it is no surprise that they get told to watch out for DropBears.

It may be more interesting to note stuff like this. soundtrack in a shed

As to the fauna and flora, I posted a tree with decorations in it. What's wrong with that? wink Anyway this thread is about the people in it.

Otherwise, it is no skin off my nose. D'you want to shift the new years eve piccies to the happy new year thread?

So many years have passed since G4Dulie gifted the forum with its presence....so many names and fun memories ....both glad and seeing those names who have passed also sad!

I have been away for awhile....dealing with a few ups and downs but always trying to hum a few bars of Sinatra's
"thats life" along the way wink anyway I just wanted to fly by and wish everyone a very very "Merry Christmas" found a little poem that I hope spreads a little joy in your hearts....

..
My Christmas Wish For You
by Ruth Kephart

My Christmas wish for you, my friend's
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun

I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold

I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend's
And a happy New Year, too...

bird smile
