Daughter #1 called me at 9:15 last night on her way to the hospital. She had gone into labor! I'm about to be a grandpa for the first time.
The original plan was that whenever I got that call, I would drop whatever I was doing, throw a suitcase and some snacks into the car and hit the road to Boston.
But alas, last Wednesday, I had to put the car in the shop for a major front drive train overhaul and it won't be done 'til later this week. Airfares have more than doubled since my youngest and I flew out there two years ago for the wedding, and with this expense, flying or even a car rental is off the table. So I'll drive out there in the next week or two and save the stress.
And now back to waiting nervously from a call or a text from my son-in-law with the big news...
As much as I wanted to be there like NOW, I'm just grateful that the inlaws were there for them. As it turns out, they'll stay with them for another week because, though they moved into their new condo last week, they're not unpacked yet. So by waiting a few weeks, it'll make for a much less hectic visit.
I spoke to my daughter and she's tired but happy, and my son-in-law will be texting me some pics later today.
