Wow! That's incredible ... the thing is an effing tank. Just look at the beating the wheels have taken. And the component that connects the ribbon cables with ... well, they look like old-school SCSI cables but obviously aren't .. is completely exposed to the elements. Pretty amazing that whole assembly isn't enclosed.
And obviously the wisdom of having an on-board power supply vs. solar arrays -- Mars is a dusty place!
It is fascinating. It is funny, I have seen so many pics of Mars, but they don't seem as real or as interesting if you don't have something juxtaposed against them. It's kind of like a lot of vacation pics with nobody posing in them; it just isn't as interesting.
