It got pretty bad around here the past couple weeks. The phonecalls from the drunk guy continued at all hours of the day and night several times each day. I finally had all I could stand. When I was ready to leave for work at 5:30am and he stopped me from leaving my garage, so drunk I could barely make out what he was saying,I decided enough was enough. I made my husband talk to him while I left, then called the police after I got to work. That evening he came to the door again, asking for money. He's been drunk on Listerine for a week or so by this time. Another call to the police to report he's ringing my doorbell, and looking in my windows to see if I'm home. They talked to him and the family he's here to see....girlfriend and her son. He was allowed to stay in the car one more night with the promise that they would take him back to South Dakota, his reservation, in the morning. Haven't seen him for a couple days now, so I can only hope it will be a while again. I know he'll make his way back here eventually, but it'll be different on my part. No more.
Back in '67… yes 1967 … i worked for a household drug place in Amarillo during my sophomore year in college. We sold all sorts of household items from Alka-Seltzer, to shave creams, Gilette razors, …women's bathroom items like hairspray, hair color kits, makeup, etc…
Anyway I had to fill in for some of the route salesman during the summer when they went on vacation. SO when I ran the route in Clarendon TX I noticed they ordered a couple of cases of various aftershave lotions. All varieties of fragrances. Puzzled we didn't sell that much in other towns, I asked the salesman why. He told me the county was dry and that was the only way the whinos could get their fix !! Turned my naive stomach !! Double Bleeach !!
