Spam, you know the stuff made out of pork...pork shoulder and ham mixed together to make that delicious meat cube...comes in several varieties...original, BBQed, low salt, Spam with Bacon...but always made with pork....even the name Spam comes from a combination of the words shoulder, pork and ham.....got a can of Spam this week....made from turkey...looked like Spam, tasted like Spam...texture was a little off from the pork version not too bad ...what I object to is the name...Turkey Spam....it can not be...because Spam is pork even the name Spam is Pork..not turkey...could call it something like Treat, that's the other meat cube made with chicken and turkey...not pork....come on Hormel you are messing with food history...no turkey in my Spam quit messing with tradition
hmmm I never thought of S.P.AM deriving it's name from "Shoulder Cut Pork" & "Ham".. but rather from jamming together of "Spiced" & "Ham"
Spiced Ham is big in the South... my Alabamian dad was crazy for the stuff, that & Souse Meat (he'd make annual pilgrimages to get the stuff)
While I'm still to try Spouse Meat (Head Cheese) I admittedly love the salty goodness of Spam.
ANYWAY... Since Ted's 2nd 100% heart clog, we've pretty much switched to 100% Turkey Products, from Breakfast & Dinner Sausages, Ground Turkey burgers, Meatballs & even Chili & HotDogs... er .."Hot Turkeys"?.. yeah I see your dilemma
But also to your point... Aside from the texture the two are virtually indistinguishable. (both pork & poultry are relatively tasteless until you add the salt and spices. Turkey can even be made to mimic beef by the introduction of any of several forms of beef bouillon.
In fact, we're invited to a friend's house this arvo, and although he prides himself on serving up Angus HotDogs, I'm planning to introduce them to Turkey Dogs, topped with Turkey Chili and Italian TurkeyDogs on Pita bread with Roasted Potatoes ... I'll let you know how it goes over
** thanx for letting me know about Turkey Spam "Turam"??? ...naw... that ain't gonna work ...I look forward to trying it ASAP.

SPAM. I got some recently. For the nostalgia thing it sounded good, smelled good frying for breakfast. Forgot about the sodium rush and ringing ears. Didn't finish the cooked portion and threw the rest out.
