Speaking of shark attacks.. saw a documentary on the 12 days of terror in NJ back in 1916.. No they didn't close a bridge !! nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, !
they had several shark attacks, most fatal, in a 12 day period. One was a 12 yr old boy in a estuary stream 15 miles inland !! This is where Benchley supposedly got the idea for the book Jaws !! The first one was a lone swimmer like the girl at the beginning of the movie.
They later caught a 800 lb female with human bones in her gut and the attacks stopped. But many suggest it could have been > 1 shark involved. AT that time no one believed sharks attacked humans. Gawd were these people naive !! They didn't believe mosquitoes carried human disease until 1900 !! Walter Reed proved that ! Shows you how much the masses ignore science…still in effect today !
