My wife and I were headed to Walmart. We live in a semi rural area and so there are a lot of feed stores on the main highway (69) that runs through Lindale. As we were passing this one feed store, they had a digital sign that read "chicks". I told my wife they get a lot more business if the sign read "chicks (topless)" !!
I remember when I was a lad going with my dad to the feed store to buy chicks ( baby chickens). We would get a few boxes. Chicks came in flat cardboard boxes with plenty of small holes in the top. . So cool to hear them chirping away inside the box.
We would bring them home to go in our "brooder house". A small I closed shed with light bulb heaters where the chicks could mature until the were old enough to let out. We truly had free range chickens where the birds could grow fat and tasty and lay eggs eating what ever they could find. Insects, worms, seeds, grass, and animal dung and each other sometimes when one would get crowded, get lame them pecked to death by his flock mates.
We also gave them feed . Eat her grain or commercial . And, yes, chickens do try to run around after having their head chopped off.
If we don't count our blessings We are just wasting our time
