If "you" were the President and Russia invaded... what would you do? Would you have a moment of indecision or just order an attack? What did Reagan do when the USSR invaded Afghanistan ? Boycott the Moscow Olympics ! woooo! decisive ! That'll learn 'em, dern 'em !!
I'm so tired of hearing from the Chicken-hawks like Cheney, Rove, Bush, Rush, etc. (Don't tell me GW served,.. we know he was given a "privileged" position that had little risk 'cause Daddy Bush was CIA director !).. then he went AWOL !!!
I hope our position is hands off... we can't nor have the right to "rule the world" ! I'm hoping Europe and US will impose economic sanctions like those on Iran... hit them in the pocketbook / economy ! BUT we can't afford an armed confrontation and they know it (hell everybody knows it) ... Bush shot our wads in Afghanistan and Iran !
I would favor trade and/or economic sanctions over military intervention or even doing nothing. But, people like President Manboobs don't really give a crap. Such measures always do the most damage to the people, and when leadership is unfazed, it's almost moot.
Turn it the other way around. What the the USSR/Russia do when
we invaded the Dominican Republic (1965) we deployed Marines to Lebanon (1982-83) we invaded Grenada (1983) we responded to provocation in Libya (1986) we assisted Honduras (1988) we attacked Panama (1989-90) we liberated Kuwait (1991) we protected our troops in Somalia (1992-95) we sent troops to the Balkans (1992-96) we assisted the Haitian government (1994-95) we attacked Iraq (1998) we attacked Afghanistan and Sudan (1998) we assisted the UN in East Timor (1999-2001) we invaded Afghanistan (2001-present) we attacked Yemen (2002) we invaded Iraq (2003-2011) we drone-attacked Pakistan (2004-present) we attacked Somalia (2007)
I've left out all of the "sent troops to help evacuate" and all the "sent advisors" kinds of actions, and of course left out Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos.
Some of these actions were no doubt necessary and good things. Not my point. It's the willingness to use arms that seems to me clear.
