This seems to be a fairly new wrinkle. Trying to view a PDF on a website from a link in Word opens a page full of gibberish. When you click the link in the Word document, a "Loading" progress bar appears at the bottom of the document frame, crawls slowly and then launches a browser full of crap code.

The same process occurs if you set Firefox as the default browser, but the PDF does open. And the same link will open in an email, or Pages, or in a PDF.

I've checked my Internet Plugins for conflicts or older versions, but there are none. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas?

same thing happen if you open the Word doc in Apple Pages and click the link from there? Just curious. Word has a reputation for screwing up dynamic content, links, etc.

Definitely a Safari vs. MS thing. The link is fine when the document is opened in Pages.

Well the solution seems obvious to me. Rebuild the desktop, zap the PRAM, reinstall the OS, and switch to OmniWeb. whistle

I did all that. I rebuilt the PRAM, zapped the OS, and tried opening Word in the toaster oven. Still no joy. tongue
