Ok, so these extremely cold temps — single digits and sub-zero wind chills are nothing new. But strong winds out of the east are rare in this area. Most storms and severe weather tend to blow in from the west, which is where the front of my condo faces. But yesterday and the day before were novel instances of the opposite. And that almost caused me a big problem!
Both upstairs bathrooms are in the back of my unit — the east side — and btwn the way cold temps and that easterly wind, the pipes for my daughter's bathroom sink froze! Fortunately, she discovered it before any pipes burst, and placing a small under-desk style space heater in the vanity for several hours thawed the pipes before any damage occurred. Whew!
Methinks this spring I may have to have some new insulation added to the back of the house.
