"ANYBODY HERE FROM 'JERSEY?"
"Yeah.. I'm from New Jersey."
"Oh yeah? What Exit?" >rim-shot<

Here in the GUARD RAIL STATE (the Garden State)
we 'get the joke'. smirk

For the 3rd SMALLEST State in the Union
New Jersey has More Highways than any other state.
..virtually Every Town (no matter how small) is
connected to every other by some highway or another
making it a cinch to pin-point virtually any location
using a Highway # & Exit, including your own house.

Long way 'round the barn just to say, 5 days a week
twice a day, I drive Ted to work, about 25 miles
each way (A HUNDRED MILES A DAY frown ) and all of
them MAJOR Roadways from between 6 & 12 lanes
of HIGH SPEED Traffic (often bumper to bumper @
60MPH (or worse still bumper to bumper @ a dead
standstill frown ) I take the GSP, US46, US20, & I80
going and coming and each highway intersects
several others (Lots of entrances & exits.. lots of
POTENTIAL accidents waiting to happen... any of
which can turn the a highway into a parking lot
in a matter of minutes.)

So one morning I'm wingin' past the local State
Trooper Baracks and I spot their new Over-Road
LED Display with the message:
"511 KNOW Before You Go"

IT'S A FREAKIN' GOD-SEND! cry

~@~ ~@~ ~@~ ~@~ ~@~ ~@~

In 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) designated 511 as the national travel information telephone number. As of October 31, 2009 there were forty-one 511 services available to the traveling public operating in 35 states, two Canadian provinces and one Canadian territory. This translates into 511 services being available to over 166 million Americans and almost 7 million Canadians.

I LOVE That I can Bookmark the Interactive Map
and click on it in under a second as I pick up
my keys and walk out the door.

Yeah...
...and WINTER hasn't even set-in ...so far. eek

That's why I figured I'd share the 511 Link
with anyone in the same situation I'm in...

There's no way to stop the aggressive driving
behavior during morning & evening rush hours,
After all "S_IT HAPPENS" moment by moment,
but it still helps to see which roads to avoid in
advance when at all possible.

I have map dyslexia. Cannot read them. I also do not understand North, South, East, West type of directions. Just tell me about the landmarks (Micky D's, Wawa's, hospital, CVS, etc.). blush

I hate circles. I will drive 100 miles out of the way to avoid them.
Thank the Lord I memorized all the back roads in 2 counties.
My favorite back road to avoid traffic & circles is driving through miles of corn fields to get to the navy base with never a flat tire. whistle

I can't recall where you're located...
...however,I thought NJ was the only state still
using "Circles" to route traffic...?

You're not the only one that finds them a devil to
negotiate. There are even diagrams that may help.

__________

I'm slightly dyslexic... mainly DIRECTIONALLY frown
I know North from South, but I couldn't point
RIGHT or LEFT with a gun pointed to my head! crazy

Funny how that shyte slipped by our Grade School
teachers way-back-when we were growing up frown

I ALWAYS hesitate long enough to remember which
hand I write with... sometimes you don't have the
luxury of that 1/2 second hesitation while speeding
down a crowded hiway following someone's directions.
