My post wasn't directed at you or anything Steve. My first comment was about people I am FB friends from back home with who "take a break". It is an easier choice for them than me, and I largely lose any regular connection with them. People say they will email or whatever, but often it doesn't happen.
Your post, however, did get me thinking about just how much it is my "go to" site. Even when I turn on my computer or mobile for something else, I always go there first. Writing this does indeed remind me that I should step back a bit.
And, yes yoyo, timely link about Zuckerberg.

It's a PIA always playing whack-a-mole with privacy settings.
When it comes to shared endorsements in ads, you can control the use of your Profile name and photo via the Shared Endorsements setting. If you turn the setting to “off,” your Profile name and photo will not show up on that ad for your favorite bakery or any other ads. This setting only applies to use in ads, and doesn’t change whether your Profile name or photo may be used in other places such as Google Play.
unless you're "foolish" enough not to have understood all along that THERE IS NO PRIVACY On the Internet...understood or otherwise.
Them's the rules.. if you don't want it "Out There" don't say it.
A DETERMINED Search can turn up everything you've ever typed on any forum, or in any e-mail. every search you've done, every image & song you've ever up or downloaded.
That was clearly stated from the first user agreement I clicked from day one... along with, "We have the right to do what we want with your stuff, and WILL turn it over to the Authorities whenever they ask for it."
Damn. Feelin'' like a virgin here, and still glad I never bothered. Little Sister fooled around with it for awhile, so . . . yeah, I can stalk anybody including all y'all through her. So Really
I just never got it. I have buds here in Houston who had and still have family serving overseas. Knowing that parents and children can stay in touch in spite of their deployment? Priceless.
I understand its power as a marketing thing too. But hello? If you don't have it? You're considered dead in the digital water? I write content for startups now, and . . . even that's skatin' on the edge of reality.
Call it a brave new world, but consider ~ It's been a brave new world since the first lighting strike put fire in our hands. We'll always move forward, and we'll always completely fk it up along the way. Reference Emergence. Killer book, and credit to Cope [wherever you are, Sweet Southern Florida Pea ]
Otherwise? Way too weird for this MacBabe.

Hi Lea!
I originally joined because I found all the people that left MC/MM. Then my friends found me. Then my family. Then I became in charge of my jobs FB page, under my name. Then Google+ somehow is using my real name too, because of work related posts. I can't back out, because my work "Depends on me". LOL!
I never got into it that much in the first place- oh I have a page and go to it once every 2-3 weeks or monthly !! Just couldn't get into putting my whole life on the internet**.

I use FB because it's the only way I can keep up regularly with students who've graduated. My son doesn't FB a whole lot nowadays, so that's no longer an issue. But there's also a group of old MC/MM folks who are nowhere else, and I like to see what they're up to. So I guess I do use FB a lot. I realize that there's nothing private on line, but I frankly don't care. What I post is what I say in meatspace, so no mystery.
