My Mom used to serve us grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup made with milk for lunch from time to time. On those days, the world seemed perfect.
I hear ya'. I still have that now and then. It's best with plain old white bread which I don't have around too often though. I'll get a yearning once in while and get Wonder Bread and have PBJs and cheese sandwiches for a few days. Party on in the 50 Y.O. style.
Speaking of killer samitches, the summer wasn't the best for tomatoes around here, but the fall has made up for it, they're still coming off the vine. Generally around here the 3rd week in Sept is about the best it does. Just picked some up from my brother's.
Picked up a loaf of Ciabatta bread and real bacon, none of that turkey crap for BLTs.
With real Mayo too of course. Don't like the light stuff.

PB&J were Kindergarten lunchbox staples, but by 3rd Grade we were allowed to go home, we'd RUN all the way home to have Lunch With Soupy Sales & the "USUAL"... ....Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese grilled w/a slice of tomato

White bread is what I like the most on the rare occasions I have grilled cheese or PBJ, but we seldom have white bread around, also.
Do more fried baloney or salami these days, but even that not so often.
I've gotten used to fake mayo, and it's improved dramatically over the years. Still not as good in a tuna/pasta salad, but I like it fine on a sandwich.
Yes, to quote Abe Lincoln in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, "Party on dudes!"

But did anyone mention Head Cheese???not so bad if it is made right
"Souse Meat" = Pickled Meat My old man used to LOVE that stuff but only eat it when we visited Alabama. He said it didn't taste the same (wasn't made the same) "Up-North". Although they're basically the same (comprised of chopped up meat suspended in gelled aspic, Souse meat has the addition of vinigar, whereas the Northern Recipe for "Head Cheese" does not.
