Chiggers and ticks don't care...they bit you anyway just for fun
They were pretty numerous at the campsite. I had an effective pump spray repellant and as long as I kept it fresh, I was fine. However, when I got home, I noticed I had small patch of about a dozen or so bites on my back where I could not reach so I will bring an aerosol spray next time. Do mosquitoes coils work? It was a nuisance to keep swatting them and I need something small to pack that would help.
whereas Black Flies ("Buffalo Gnats") prefer fresh running water.
My 2 favorite camping spots were A) The Delaware Water Gap and along the Appalachian Trail. A Mix of fresh running water & bogs. B) Peekamoose Mountain Reservation. along a large trout stream running between 2 of 3 reservoirs in the area.
There are hundreds of mosquito repellents on the market... but nothing that deters a determined swarm of black flies!
