Connection (assuming you are talking about Internet connection) has nothing to do with the speed of the SSD/IDE drives.
SSD drives will boot fast even with no Internet connection.
Now if you are talking about connection to the Mac (USB/FireWire/Lightning) then yes, a SSD external drive (is there one?) connected via USB2 will be slower than a lightning connected one I believe.

ok. I don't see the connection between your internet connection and Papa's questions about SSD/Hybrid drives....
Other than the remote comparison of saying that even if it boots up fast, if you have a slow connection speed, your browser & anything internet related will be slow.
That may be true, but Papa was asking because his hard drive is about full. The discussion turned to the speed of SSD vs IDE drives. I don't think anybody was discussing internet speeds related to speed of the browser or other internet apps.
Thinking about keeping this laptop the way it is and giving it to my son when the new ones come out. The drive in it will be more than enough for him. I may even take a discount on the current model MacPro when the new ones come out. I don't have to have all the bells and whistles but like jim said, the upgrade cycle will catch up to me pretty quick. My son is still using a white Macbook that is several operating systems behind.
