From Apple~
"As a thank you for being a former MobileMe member, you received a 20 GB complimentary storage upgrade when you moved to iCloud. Your upgrade expires on September 30, 2013."

So they are going to kick me down to 5 GB storage.
The richest corporation on the planet, and they give 5 measly GB's for free.

Thanks for nothing, Apple.

Really? 5GB is a lot for free.

Quote:
Your purchased music, movies, apps, books, and TV shows ó as well as your Photo Stream ó donít count against your free storage. That 5GB goes a long way for your mail, documents, account information, settings, and other app data.

I'm using 18GB with 3 devices (iMac, iPhone & iPad). So that's 3 backups on there, which is the largest part of my storage.

If you can find an online storage place that is as easy to use as iCloud, let me know.

And the upgrade price isn't all that bad:

I just like to complain grin

I've got plenty of storage elsewhere, and never went above the free 5 GB, because I knew the +20 was only temporary.

I'm still using only 400MB of it, so switching back to 5GB isn't going to be a problem. I don't subscribe to iTunes Match simply because I don't need it (nor the cost).

I just got the same email, except I had 50GB. But I had already reset my renewal prefs for the free 5GB. All of my online storage is with Network Solutions as part of my hosting package, and with CrashPlan. I don't use PhotoStream or iPhoto, don't do slideshows, rarely use iTunes (and never Match), don't leave emails on the server, and don't use my iPhone for much beyond calls and email... so for me even the 5GB is overkill.

BTW all, iTunes match is separate from iCloud, not related at all.

I have iTunes Match. I can't keep my whole music library on my phone so I use that to have it all anywhere. $25 a year is a lot cheaper than getting a 64G phone for $200 more than a 16G.

I've been tempted, but you know I avoid subscriptions.
Any problems?
Do they replace higher rate with lower rate?
You have access to ALL your music anywhere, anytime on all devices?

About file formats and iTunes Match

Songs encoded as MP3 or AAC that cannot be matched to the iTunes Store will be uploaded as is. These songs will be made available for download in the same format it was uploaded in.
Songs encoded as MP3 or AAC that do not meet certain quality criteria will not be matched or uploaded to iCloud. (recorded below 96kbps)
Songs encoded as ALAC, WAV, or AIFF, will be (temporarily) transcoded in iTunes to 256 kbps AAC when uploaded to iCloud.
Song files over 200 MB will not be uploaded to iCloud.
Matched songs in your local library will not automatically be transcoded to 256 kbps AAC. (The quality in your library will remain the same)

iTunes Match is limited to 25,000 songs.
iTunes Store purchases made with the same Apple ID being used for iTunes Match do not count towards the 25,000 song limit.
Song files over 200 MB will not be uploaded to iCloud.
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) will not be matched or uploaded to iCloud unless your computer is authorized for playback of that content.

About file formats

Songs encoded as MP3 or AAC that have been matched to the iTunes Store will be made available for download as 256 kbps as AAC from iCloud.
Songs encoded as AAC or MP3 that do not meet certain quality criteria will not be matched or uploaded to iCloud. (recorded below 96kbps)
Songs encoded in ALAC, WAV, or AIFF will be transcoded to a separate temporary AAC 256 Kbps file locally, prior to uploading to iCloud. The original files will remain untouched. To obtain a higher quality transcoding, download the matched songs from iCloud.
Songs encoded as MP3 or AAC that cannot be matched to the iTunes Store will be uploaded as is. These songs will be made available for download in the same format it was uploaded in.

I added the bold for clarity.

All matched music plays back at 256 kbps AAC.

Available on all devices, up to 10 devices. You do have to have an internet connection for it to stream of course. You can choose to store some locally on your devices also for when not around internet.

Gotta admit, it sounds pretty good (No pun intended).
You're the first person I know that uses iTunes Match.
Since I'm only on WiFi, storing locally helps.
