Loc: Petaluma, CA
I was asked by a good friend how I can survive in this day and age without a cell phone. Easy. The same way I've always survived without a cell phone. Believe me, I would love to have an iPhone, but an iPod touch fits my needs just fine, thank you.
The more disabled i become the more I come to rely on my iPhone.
Annoying little stuff like running out of gas would be a major disaster for me, most service stations around me are closing down, so just locating one in a pinch, (without driving in circles ((running out of gas))looking for one)
I've already told the story of sitting outside the Main Post office in town...an impressive structure, big wide marble/granite? stairway, tall Dorian columns ... with a little tiny gold-leaf sign indicating their HOURS of Business @ the top of the stairs
(couldn't go anywhere else... ...THEY were holding an undelivered package for me...
9AM ... issue, if I climb the stairs, I might have to sit at the top (can't stand for an hour) waiting for them to open ((at 10AM ..?)) or clammer back to the car AND GO HOME... since I couldn't possibly climb the stairs AGAIN all in the same day... ...OR... Use my Smart Phone to GOOGLE Post Office Hours.
BINGO... 10AM... but at least I was able to sit in the relative comfort of my car until then.
I could site other reasons/examples...
...Being at a Mall... I can no longer spend the day window shopping etc I have to get where I'm going ASAP or not go at all.
GOOGLE/Livingston Mall/FLOOR PLAN/Apple Store floorplan in hand, I could then choose the closest entrance /parking spot to have any hopes of getting in and out again.. and still be able to drive home.
I'm planning on upgrading to the 16GB iPhone 4Gs which is still only $49.99 if you get a Refurb.
however what you need to do is to familiarize yourself with TERMS that you'll encounter before hand, so when the merchant babbles off contract options (like a freakin' cross between a used-car- salesman & an auctioneer ) you'll be better prepared to know exactly what you want & need in order To Not Be "OVER-SOLD" on Potentially (NOT "nickel n' dime") EXPENSIVE "Add-Ons".
...and it's Not just The Contract... I'm past my contract period and still paying the same outrageous rates AND getting SPAMMED by AT&T to renew a NEW 2 Year Contract (with the CHEAP NEW iPHONE as a Tempting Carrot-On-A-Stick Enticement)
I've been with A&T since Lilith seduced Adam. I only pay a little over $15/month plus taxes for my land line. I am on their senior plan w/all the bells & whistles. I have no use for a cell phone. If you want to contact me if I am not home, leave a message on my answering machine. If you leave no message, as far as I am concerned you never called.
There is no advantage for me to have a cell phone. Survived without one for over 1/2 century plus. Can survive without one for another century. That is, if they are still making them. My mama always said, "you don't miss what you never had." She sure is right! Well sort of.....I'm lost without my computers.
