Saw that yesterday, thought it was fantastic. While they are calling it a space dome it reminds me of the south sea islanders who made the original version out of metal barrels left behind by GI's during WW2...various notes were made by hammering indentations in the metal with a hammer, then played by striking the indentations with a stick much like a drum stick. It was something you might see on the Ed Sullivan Show of Shows TV program
referred to as a "Pan" "Hang" or "Slap Drum" it's a neat instrument that looks like 2 Woks welded together... but it'snot
HAN SOLO
It's actually a precision instrument developed and manufacture(D) in Switzerland (past tense) because for WHATEVER Reason, the company stopped making them, therefore they're in such limited supply that they've become astronomically expensive since the typical initial reaction upon hearing that sound is "I WANT ONE!!!"
For the few that were lucky enough to scarf them up when they did, it's been a constant discovery of sounds that vary with different techniques, including stroking, tapping, and banging with everything from the fingertips, palms to elbows.

What I was thinking of is called a steal drum, what I remember are the hand made ones, checking the net you can actually buy a ready to use one, great sounding thing.
