Allowing for the fact that each market has its own weird varieties, the names they choose simply boggles the brain.<br>An example or two: <br>(And I'm not picking on Nissan here, although...well read for yourself.) <br>Nissan Sunny<br>Nissan Cedric<br>Nissan Cherry<br>Nissan Bluebird<br>Mazda Familia<br>Nissan Fairlady<br>Mitsubishi Starion<br>Mitsubishi Diamante<br><br>I'm sure there's dozens, if not hundreds, more. Whatever happened to real car names like, Thunderbird; Mustang; Firebird; Terminator; Stratothruster; Helldiver; names with hair on them, names with big biceps and underarm odor.<br><br>It's all got a little woosey. VW Rabbit? Sheesh. (Yeah I know it's not Japanese, but still...)<br><br>As an aside, in France the Toyota MR2 had its name changed because MR2 in French sounds uncomfortably close to "merde", I'm told. <br><br><br>

Simply they are Trying to name thier cars that would appeal to the American society.<br><br>Translation gets lost in a big way -- lost the hair on the chest stuff.<br><br>Like wise back in the 60s Chevy named a car "Nova" meaning an astrological event. The model bomb big in spanish speeking countries because "Nova" means "No Go" and for a car that is no good.<br><br>
