I gave my Mac Mini insomnia!

I had turned on an external FW CD burner to check the readability of a CD that my granddaughter had found and didn't turn it off. I kept wondering why my Mini was suddenly not sleeping at the appointed interval as set in Energy Saver.

Checked the System log for anything unusual and, lo and behold, I found something I hadn't seen before at right about the time it should have gone to sleep:

Quote:
Jun 17 20:39:35 mail199 com.apple.usbmuxd[75]: _heartbeat_failed heartbeat detected detach for device 0x19d-69.58.0.197:0!

That led me to assume that it was something that wasn't playing nice which is when I realized that the power light was still on on the CD burner. I powered it off and the insomnia vanished.

Glad you figured it out, although the usbmuxd message has nothing to do with it. It is simply a message about a USB device being polled or something, and your burner is FW.

I see them all of the time in my Console and most every other Mac I work on. Do a search in Console for heartbeat and see if the messages are still occurring.
