Not to mention Heart was also inducted along with quite a few others, including (believe it or not) Public Enemy. Yeah.. rap in da house... there goes da hood.

Dave Grohl's introduction of Rush explained to me why I should have cared …. but having the progressive rock genre occupy most of my focus since the early 70s, Rush is one of the "epic" bands that never connected with me. Neil Pert has always been a drummer of the ages, and they are one of the few original bands of that era that live on and still have amazing technical chops and tightness (on par with the best of Crimson and vintage Yes), but damn…. it's always been Geddy's voice that makes my ears bleed. Good for them and their fans that the R&R Hall of Fame gave them the recognition. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Yeah... Geddys voice is really shrill now. Amazing that fans don't care though. I saw him a couple of years ago and the crowd was mixed.. and he wasn't hitting the high notes. No one cared. I think their power lies more in the music and those Yes-like mystical lyrics... And the fact the lead singer (sole) singer plays bass... how many bands does the lead singer play bass? Also, how many bands does the drummer write most of the lyrics? And they sure put out a lot of sound for a 3 dude band.

I thought you were talking about Rush Limbaugh, maybe he was being inducted into the radio hall of fame.
I like the band, though, too. All three of them are very fine musicians. Geddy Lee has always amazed me at how he can sing lead and still play all those cool bass licks.
Thanks!

Let us not forget, when he's not playing bass, he's playing keyboards, and playing bass pedals/sequencer with his enormous feet. They use some prerecorded effects, but 90% of it is live, badass musicianship.
Geddy has a shrill voice? LOL! Where have you been? :-) Either you love it or you hate it, kinda like Jon Anderson (That chick can really sing!). :-P Personally, I love it. INDIVIDUALITY. Nobody sounds like that. Respect.
Check him lately... his once clear high voice is being constantly strained. Also, at the award ceremony I think he was just trying too hard and compounded the problem.
And I adore Jon Andersons voice... from Yes to King Crimson to Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howes' Union album to any other number of endeavors... but I hafta say that my fave is his effort with Vangelis... Friends of Mr Cairo.
So amazing how many stages this song goes through... with a powerful ending.

Crap.. I should have started a separate thread for all this JA & V. LOL.
Outside of this and inside of that, the memory lingers so right, completely as that We've loved a long time, be my friend, I need you
Inside of this and outside of that There's so much more to finding out how we forever simply feel the way The wayward-winds that hide the storms at night like the winter came, It changed our lives and we were very merry to be there I love, get used to being this way I love, once again a story really true creates a sound so good, that it's true
So outside of this and inside of that There are words that come with time like love songs they seem self written So true, they seem so true I work a moments time and feel this is one of life's mysteries Bringing a smile, 'cause I know what it does to you So I'm trying to pass it thru, trying for you
Countless variations of the memory, the state, the mere emotion of getting 'round Crazy understandings of the way we tilt the light but it shines when we make the sound Don't live by mistakes, we can dance to your tune But in reaching out and touching your love Feel those countless understandings of the countless many reasons, there are two, offer you my love Countless understandings of a debt to starving nations, needing love, I tell no lie Countless staring messages, has mortal life reflection, is it spelled out once or twice But there's this whole understanding and it's coming I guess, I know I hope that you can get into this, to this I was there and then and then You were there and then and then We were there, the beginning of time I was there and then and then You were there and then and then We are together in time I was there and then and then You were there and then and then We were there, the beginning of time

Dave, two of my favorite songs, EVER. <3
But can you imagine hitting those high notes for 35 years+? Jon has maintained forever, but you do know his voice is shot, and has some major problems? One of the reasons he's not with Yes anymore. I guess I'm more forgiving for vocalists than players, that after decades of singing, it has got to take its toll…
Yeah.. although I will say this cat Jon Davison has a great voice and does a super job sounding almost exactly alike. Sort of like his name is almost the same...lol.
