Apparently an MIT campus cop was shot tonight in a campus building. CNN says he died.

.

PDT 10:45 p.m.

Police just took man into custody at Watertown Massachuchu.

Large police scrum.

Two others taken into custody before I tuned in. They have no idea if these people are connected to the MIT policeman who got shot.

NewsCenter 5's Sean Kelly reported.

The scene was located on Laurel and Dexter Street in Watertown.

Police are urging everyone to stay inside of their homes. The area is considered extremely dangerous.

The SWAT team, Cambridge, Boston and Watertown Police along with Homeland Security and the ATF all rushed to the area.

The suspects are reportedly connected to a carjacking that took place in the Cambridge area.

It was not immediately clear if the incident was related to the fatal shooting of an MIT campus police officer.

The story. Before I moved to Dayton, I lived in Newton Corner — barely 3/4 of a mile from Watertown Sq., and I know every one of the streets referred to in the article. I'd have heard it all from my place and probably would have see the flash from the bomb they set off. These kids are/were f'n crazy! shocked

And now I've gotta send a condolence note to my client at the MBTA because it was one of her cops that was shot and killed. frown

I wonder if this is related to the Boston Bombing that happened or something entirely else? More crime happening every day.

Daughter #1 just called. She and her husband are home for the day. They live in the next town over, but both work at the Home Depot at the Arsenal Mall, which is smack in the middle of the search area in Watertown. In fact, up 'til two years ago they lived right next to Watertown Sq!

Everything — and I mean everything — is in lockdown right now!

CNN) Violence terrorized Bostonians overnight, and police believe two suspects involved are the same men who allegedly planted bombs that killed three in the Boston Marathon Monday.

Reuters reports the Watertown suspect shot to death was the other one of the suspected bombers so yeah, definitely related.

They haven't said anything yet about the identity of the dead perpetrator.
Some sources say he wore a 'suicide vest'....
