Broken?
Version: 7.0.3.8542
OS 10.7.5
I get no imagery and switching to Google Maps causes it to crash and burn.

Reboot?
Try tossing your Google Earth cache folder in home/Library/Caches and/or the com.Google.GoogleEarthPlus.plist in Preferences.

No luck. Should I delete all Google Earth related stuff and start from scratch?

Might be a bug.
Found this
. Not your OS version, but same problem in the last week. Do you still have the older installer in Time Machine or something?

Can't check right now. Wife has gone to sleep. I'll check in the AM.

Thanks! So, it might be a problem with the current version. If I go back to the "older" version, I should turn off Google updates then.

This has to be a Google issue since the same thing happens on my wife's computer running 10.6.8.
