All of a sudden my Office for Mac 2004 started to crash on it's own. Word, Excel and Powerpoint refuses to open, Entourage works just fine.
It ain't a corrupted file, I double-click on the app icon and all I get is a error message. Tried deleting all microsoft.plist, repairing permissions, new account, all of that and then reinstall the package and update everything but still no go.
Any ideas? It's kinda urgent as I need Excel to work on spreadsheets that has macros...
So it crashes when you log in to a new user account too?
If so download Font Finagler and clear all font caches first.
If that doesn't work you may have a bad font in Library/Fonts. Move all fonts out of it to a folder and try again. Not System/Library/Fonts! It has fonts you need to rum the system. That should be reserved for the basic System fonts, unless you've moved fonts into it there should only be around 40 or so fonts by default.
-deleted Office folder -searched with Spotlight and deleted anything Microsoft-related (fonts, plist, but not Entourage identities) -emptied trash -fixed permissions with Disk utility -re-install everything back -fixed permissions -re-install updates -fixed permissions
And now not even Entourage works anymore, so I'm downloading Libre Office and I hope I can work with my macros in it...

I've been using 2011 for a few years without any problems. But the last two software updates have been primarily related to Office 365 (the subscription model that I'm not gonna bother with), so now I get these occasional error messages telling me that Office 365 can't locate the server. WTF? Is MS gonna revive the practice of slamming?
Could be the Entourage identities folder. All Office programs use that also.
So you decided not to try the font thing I mentioned? Oh well. Good luck. I'm moving on then.
Seriously? I said right there that I deleted it all too! Anyway, Entourage is the only one that was working to begin with, it stopped working after I messed around with it some more.
But then I did a safe boot, uninstalled everything (again!), emptied the trash, moved all my fonts to the trash (all but system fonts - and left it there), reinstalled everything back (yet again!!) and only managed to get Entourage working again.
Also, Libre Office doesn't handle well my macros, so I'm stuck until I can reformat the whole disk - crappy solution the Microsoft way...
