My understanding is YES.
This again goes back to Horse riding , where the saddles stirrup comes into play (the heel can hook into) and gives the (spurs) to attach and still have ground clearance. <-- something like that.
The pointed boot part was for kicking them (cow pies) you can get a good left or right spin and fly them pies in the air

Good story about pointed toes but I believe they are pointed to facilatate inserting them into stirrups. Also, they have sturdy instep so that cowboys can stand in the stirrups with the long heel so the boots won't come out.
