So can one root for a team that has a unconvicted murderer as a star player? Or does one just figure the ones who were killed were just scum also and ignore it?

Nothing unusual about that! The NFL as well as the NBA are full of murderers, rapist, child molesters (pedophiles), serial baby daddies, robbers, etc........
As they (powers that be) say, it's not what they do off the field or court but what they do on the field & court.
Back to watching the commercials & SNAPPED during the stadium blackout...
