I think I started popping in to MacCentral around 99 autumnish. First I was just asking about advice on putting a Voodoo 2 or 3 card on my beige powermac G3. Started looking around other posts, too and thought I'd stick around. That old workhorse is now in the basement with the Voodoo 3 card still in place.
. My first friends here were John Lasruk, Pops Earl, and some others whose names I can't even recall now. Dang. I just tried and tried to remember those first forum members, but I've lost them!!

I took a very roundabout way to end up at MC. My first board was MacNewsNetwork, which I joined in 2000. Some horrible brouhaha took place there towards the end of that year and I decided I couldn't take the place any more, so I moved to MacMinute, in Jan. of 2001. John, who used to be a mod here but doesn't come any more, had the same trajectory. I didn't join MC until 2005, I think.

Actually it's only been 15 years since MacCentral started their forums, got all emotional I guess. January 31 1998.
There is a link on that page that goes to the section with news stories. I liked the one about the first virtual stock market on the 'Net. Scroll down a little. Think it will ever take off?
The earliest forum pages that they have archived is 2000. I could be found as Doc back then.
Joe Carson is who I was trying to think of. Thanks!
I just found a wild thread [2008] at MacCentral Cafe where we posted about who had high post counts. Also about a rumor or smart a$$ remark that Joe C. Carson was dead!! Not true. Well at that time it wasn't.
Seems he wrote an article for MacLust.com. The site is still there but no J C Carson article.
In 2000, we talked about where our nick names originated and I found JCC's name mentioned again:

Posted By: Pops My son-in-law started calling me "Pops" when he first started sending me e-mail. The (OFI) came from a feud I was having with Joe C Carson many moons ago. Pops (OFI) *** Posted By: Drewstre Hiya- -Man, it's been a while! Anyway, I'm sure Mr. Carson peruses these forums every now and then still, even if he doesn't post (although I'm sure the temptation is there... :^) Good to see some old (and I mean that in the best way) familiar faces. I'd be interested in hearing 'bout that feud story... Drewstre
I recall some interesting KateSorensen vs. JoshuaThorpe threads
I thought that I remembered him from the MacOpz.com forums too, and through searching the site from Google I found this. He was caustic at times for sure but he was right on that one.
Sure would be nice to have some of the old gang at least check-in here again... if for no other reason to let everyone know what's up in their life. Some of them I still keep in contact with on Facebook, etc... but still, would be nice to see them stop by for a quick (cyber) drink.
