If you lived in California for the last several decades chances are you were interviewed by Huell Howser. (I was in 2001.) His PBS show "California Gold" and interview style was so damn honest and down-to-earth he became a icon in his profession.
Sorry to hear you lost one of your childhood icons... that's always sad. We had some locals who were hosts of kids shows in Amarillo, but none as well known as yours.

Must be a Boston and Cali thingy , never seen either.
We did have that Mutual of Omaha nature show. My fav show was when Perkins was talking about Pythons , meanwhile his side kick was getting his arse beat by a Python in the back ground in the water no less
I always remember that joke when Tonto's name comes up !
LR and Tonto surrounded by 100s of Indians and the LR says' "We're in for big trouble Tonto!" Tonto replies those immortal words "What you mean we, white-man !?"
