I just got back from a weekend away visiting my brother and his girlfriend, and talking about past relationships etc. - to find my Decree Absolute sitting in my post box. I'm now officially divorced. That feels very weird. Feeling grateful for the good stuff that happened in our marriage, even though it was overtipped by the bad stuff.

Yes, it's complicated - we have a Decree Nisi first, then an obligatory minimum gap of six weeks and a day (to allow for fiddlyness where there are dependants involved) before you can apply for the Decree Absolute, which is The End.
I don't feel like being congratulated or commiserated, it's a strange sad relief.
Meanwhile, I'm still trying to find out who on earth is responsible for that "six weeks and a day" rule - the Brothers Grimm? Seriously, it's pretty arbitrary, is't not?
