Does the Kernel Panic Message not have clues to the problem?

Okay, we know the DVDs are good. If you put the 20 into target disk mode can you reformat the HD from the 17? Go to partion in Disk Utility and choose 1 partition, in Options choose GUID, HFS+ journaled.

After that you can insert one of the DVDs into the 17, boot from it, and choose the target disk moded 20 as the install HD.

The 20" won't go to any mode except Kernel Panic. Nothing else.
I can hear it accessing the trapped DVD but still get only KP screen no matter what I try.

I'd have to see the panic log but that's a lot to write down. I can't remember the last time it did me any good though.

You need to get the DVD out first. It could be the KP cause.

Are they wired keyboard and mouse?

The DVD is not the problem. I thought that when Snow Leopard was trapped but when I got it out it made no difference.
Yes, wired and nothing else.

Will it boot to single user mode? Apple-s on startup.

Do you feel up to removing the HD, or at least disconnecting it. Either way those are pain to open up and work on.

Get the DVD out and try target disk mode.

Will the 20 Safe Boot, Shift key down at boot.

Yes, tried Apple + s and Apple + v & Shift. No luck. I have trawled the Internet and tried everything suggested. Apple were no help.
Something tells me there is a PRAM Reset button on the motherboard. Ever heard of it?

I'll check the PRAM reset button, give me a few minutes.

Try booting holding down cmd-opt-shift-delete which will make it boot from the DVD and not load the driver for the HD in case the driver on the HD has become corrupt.
