iPhoto crashes if I even look at it the wrong way. Since upgrading to Lion, then Mountain Lion, I've had nothing but problems. I do have a backup, I've deleted everything iPhoto related, reinstalled, reimported, a dozen times at least. I've got it to stop crashing (for now), but I have so many duplicates, blank events, photos with no thumbnails, etc. it's practically useless. After reading endless posts on Apple, I deleted Perian, and that stopped the crashing. I've rebuilt the database, created new libraries, all to no avail. Any suggestions? Start from scratch again now that Perian is gone? I can't believe one of the solutions on Apple's boards is to reinstall the OS. This isn't Windows, darn it.
Did you try removing com.apple.iPhoto.savedState from HD/Users/you/Library/Saved Application State?
If that alone doesn't work then toss all of the prefs files etc along with that. If the thumbnails can't rebuild correctly you can try Quitting iPhoto then tossing anything in your iPhoto Library that has Thumb at the beginning, then launch iPhoto, it will rebuild them all.
Ctrl-click on the iPhoto Library then go to "Show package contents" to get to the innards.

The only problem I've had with iPhoto in Lion is I can't use the edit sliders anymore. Every time I try, the photo/screen goes black (since the last 2 or 3 updates). I'm thinking of archiving my iPhoto Library and starting a new one. I have over 4400 photos dating back to Feb, 2003.
