Toast has been passed around like a bong at Woodstock. It used to be the absolute best app to burn CDs and DVDs, but the last few years it has been buggy as all get-go.

As to your problem, I don't know what the solution is - but I will tell you that setting the SPEED of the burn to the ACTUAL speed of your SuperDrive tends to fix a lot of the problems I was having with it. By default, I believe Toast sets the speed to "best." Leaving it set to the default resulted in an unreadable disc, a failed lead-out, or a failed verification nearly 100% of the time. Changing it 8X fixed it nearly 100% of the time for me.

I'll try that. This is a 27" Imac from last years line up.

HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA32N:

Firmware Revision: KC12
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 1024 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media:
Type: DVD-R
ID: TYG02
Blank: Yes
Erasable: No
Overwritable: Yes
Appendable: Yes
Write Speeds: 2x, 4x, 8x

====

So I'll be trying 8x.
The issue has been.. I can burn a full DVD... or a 40 MB file of Jpegs (10 or so files) and the 40 mb file writes in 30 seconds... then the lead out takes 3 minutes.

Why use Toast to burn data files? Just use Apple's built in burn software, much more reliable, and free. It burns a Mac, PC, or UDF compatible disc by default.

I haven't used Toast in ages, I'm still back on version 7 or 8 or something.

That makes sense, but still, try Apple's burner for data, much easier.

Edit - BTW from what I've been reading v.11.0.6 is crap, Roxio even suggested people go back to 11.0.4.

I've read about that happening too at the Toast forums. I was curious about 11 and was thinking about upgrading to see what they had to offer but decided against it after reading about the problems and their inability to fix them.

Maybe with the transition to Corel there are some internal problems, but as it stands I really don't need Toast at the moment so I'll wait and see if new life is pumped into it. I used to do a lot with backing up DVDs and making custom DVDs and such, but anymore I watch stuff online and just don't have the need for it anymore. I also now have the DVR for the TV so I don't have the need to record to EyeTV and burn discs to watch on the TV.

The only reason I keep it around is that with Apple killing off iDVD, it's a fairly simple replacement for creating quicky DVDs w/chapters, titles, etc..
