Well, I don't think it's the speakers, but my sound keeps shorting out. I have tried replacing speaker wires, switching left right, etc., but nothing is ever consistent. They are great speakers, but I would need a new receiver to use them.
Question 1: Any recommendations on a mini-reciever?
Question 2: Should I toss it all and just buy computer speakers? If so, what kind do you recommend?

Finally found my old receiver. It's a Nakamishi R-1 mini receiver from 1990! Paired with a couple Infinity bookshelf speakers from 1986, they have served me well.
My, how the time flies. Guess it's time to buy a new one, eh?
There are a lot of decent computer speakers out there today. Logitech, Altec Lansing,Edifier, and others.Receivers vary from NAD to Denon.Go on a website called Audio Asylum and you will read and see what people are selling there used and new regarding computer speakers and receivers.
My only advice is... try to buy a pair that hook up with USB. I had the original pair of Harmon Kardon Soundstix and loved them. They finally started going out so I bought another set. The first were USB.. the second was a typical audio jack. The problem here is that I game nearly every night before bedtime... (killing peeps on the internet relaxes me) so I have to constantly plug in headphones then the next day plug in Soundstix. I have to then get on knees and reach way under desk where the off button is or you get a loud! sound when unplugging them and it's a royal pain. Then the next day if I wanna play some music real loud I have to swap them out again.
