My ex had always done our tax returns — and did a damn good job of it, too. We tried TurboTax once, when it was very new and still buggy, and dropped it. But now, ex-wife also means ex-tax preparer. So I took a deep breath and bought TT/Home & Business, and boy-howdy am I impressed! I have to file Fed, OH, MA, and city returns. Talk a/b daunting! I ran the course once, fainted when I saw what I was going to owe, got an Intuit tax expert on the phone to clarify a couple of things, and did another lap. Whammo — cut my liability by more than half. I'm sold on TurboTax now.
It has served me well. I've been sing tax programs for rears all the way back to MacinTax.
When we were out f college that first year back in 68 we went to h&r b Block. Our taxes were simple., just two jobs, no kids. nothing .
Had to pay a bundle. I've done my own ever since. For some years, I had a collegue at school who was an expert on taxes who gave me advice and answered my questions. I remember those MacInTax early years, putting in the data then having the application print out the forms accepted by the Fed. Pretty cool. Almost fun.
Then I would do my State by hand. What a mess.
If we don't count our blessings We are just wasting our time
Cheap it ain't. Cost me a/b $60 for the Home & Business version, another $40 for the freakin' OH forms (MA and city were free), and just to CMA, I spent another $40 for the Audit Defense. But peanuts compared to the thousands it saved me.
