I recently developed an interest in coins.. been going a bit nuts. Some were pricey... most were not. Most off Ebay. Be Careful! .. especially if your a noobie.
I recently acquired a really nice 1937 buffalo nickel with good details. Also several proofs from the 60's. I was floored to see a proof wheat back penny... beautiful! I think it was even nicer than the proof 1964 Kennedy half. 5 Indian heads form late 1800s and early 1900s. I picked up 22 silver eagles... investing a bit in silver. (It's the new gold! ) whatever...lol.
I was going for only U.S. currency/coins... but then I realized I wanted a few coins older than what the US can offer. Just to have a really old coin and hold it in my hand. So I bought two of these from a buddy...
An 1855 and a 1856.. so cool. So much history. Never been a history buff... but it changes when I can hold an artifact from that era. I keep these in my wallet..... they were less than $4.00 each. Think I'm gonna use one as a ball marker when golfing. jk.

Cool,
My collection went from my grandmother to Mom then to me and now Jaz has it.
I have 1866 German silver dollar, great detail but the owner who lost it drilled a hole in it for a necklace.
1903 copper penny about 15 cents worth. 4 buffalo nickels, forgot what year.
1910 silver dime.
Some Kennedy half dollars
Assorted other coins ?
I also gave to Jaz my collection of 20 dollar silver coin set (legal tender in Bahamas) This was minted from the Franklin Mint Pirates of the Caribbean Series.

I know that collecting to some but I just can't get into it. Although I do enjoy hearing about the history about the items.
It does seem that some folks forget why the item exited in the first place.
An example
I rather enjoy watching the Meechum Auto auctions . I enjoy the history of the cars as many were from my childhood.
On one auction they had a early 60's Corvette with about 4 actual miles on it go for over $2,000,000. wow. This car would have had to be put on a transport and taken to the guys warehouse where it was kept for 47 years. Everything was certified.
At the same auction the auctioned a 96 Porche 911 with some 60,000 miles on it. I think it sold for about $60,000. These are estimated numbers but really close, especially the mileage on the Vette.
Now, I say to you, which car was enjoyed the way it was intended? The Corvette was like if Da Vince had taken this painting of this ugly girl and put it in a vault with no one seeing it for years. No one would have enjoyed it.
Oh, I understand having the vette in a warehouse , going out there to look t it and maybe dream about what it might be like to put it through her paces, and making a ton of money off her in 50 years. But still. Think of the fun driving that Porche was.
I look at it like this...I buy the silver eagles cuz they are OK for an IRA and you should have about 10-20% of your portfolio in precious metals. The other coins... well, I can only imagine they will become worth more as time passes. Especially the old, rare coins.
As far as not enjoying his Vette... anyone who can buy a Vette and have it transported to his home can probably buy another one for actual driving.
