GW Bush- Inherited from Clinton one of the best economies ever. Inherited a slight surplus in the annual budget. Unemployment < 5% Dow near 11,000. Left office with one of the worst economic disasters ever, housing market crash, banks closing, major industries like GM in turmoil and some of the largest annual deficits to that point. Dow sinks from high of ~15,000 to 7700, and Unemployment goes to ~ 10%. AS he leaves.
BO - Inherited from GW one of the worst economic disasters ever, housing market crash, banks closing, major industries like GM in turmoil and some of the largest annual deficits to that point. Dow sinks from ~15,000 to 7700 and Unemployment goes to ~ 10% AS he arrives.
+3 years later - Economic disaster averted; Dow has gone from 7700 to 12,900 ( UP 65%). Unemployment DOWN from near 10% to now 8.3%. Almost 2 years of consecutive growth. GM recovers and now is poised to take back the #1 spot as world's largest automaker.
Is it perfect? - NO - housing still in a slump, deficits still very large, but these long term economic woes can't be fixed in 3 or 4 or maybe even 8 years- no one can tell. (I think it'll take 5-6). BUT it's a helluva lot better than what he inherited (i.e. improved significantly) and most importantly ask, "Does anyone really want it give it back to the house-wrecking crew that led us from surpluses to record deficits " ??
To quote GW " Fool me once, shame on you, . . Fool me twice... ah. ah . . I can't get fooled again !"

I'm being serious - MANY of you here have some great ideas. I'm not pompous enough to believe only I can come up with a great summary. I may live in GA but the Newt virus hasn't infected me yet !
