So I am finally fully updated. Not without some glitches though
1) out of 3 iPhones and 2 iPads, 1 iPhone and 1 iPad had to be restored. 2) apps were placed back on some devices, but not all 3) iCloud says that I only have 1.7GB free...that my iPad is using 2.9GB. I have NO idea why nor how to change it. So no wireless backup for me! 4) iCloud syncs EVERYTHING to ALL devices. Why can't I choose what to sync with what devices? My wife doesn't want to visit all my sites and vice versa. Sure, we could have her sign up a new MobileMe account, but then we couldn't share apps, right? 5) well, if I didn't want those old emails I deleted before....too bad. All 200 or so are back now. Always fun to have to delete old emails on every device yet again 6) have the same bookmarks on your Mac as your iPad/iPhone? Guess what! We will not ask if you want both, we'll automatically add them to BOTH! So now you get to delete duplicate bookmarks 7) contacts....everyone wants all the contacts...so let's just duplicate them like the bookmarks. And rather than letting me choose if I want the contacts my wife has and vice versa...let's just put them on every device.
That's just off the top of my head. Feel like we are starting all over, which is not what I wanted.

Are you guys sharing a mail account? I'm not understanding how previous to switching over you were able to have the separation/control you want on all the various devices without already having at least separate e-mail addresses if not separate MobileMe accounts ...
Having said that, you can control what gets synced to what devices by going to Settings --> iCloud on each device and enabling/disabling the various toggles. I don't think it has the granularity you're talking about though -- but then neither did MobileMe, hence the confusion =)
My iPhone (after the update to iOS 5) claims to have 23Gb of "other" on it, and refuses to sync (saying helpfully "the sync was not completed because the sync failed.") even when I tell it not to include music or photos.
Argh.

I have had it with iCloud. You can't separate devices...so my contacts are on my wife and son's iPhone and vice versa. My son deletes contacts on his and they disappear on mine

I'm assuming you each have separate e-mail addresses, yes? If they aren't Apple IDs already, try using those addys to create new Apple IDs. Then use those IDs just for iCloud services -- that way contacts, mail and stuff will be separated. Keep your existing Apple ID just for use with iTunes/App Store so you can continue to use apps and stuff on each device you've authorized =)

John, you can use one Apple ID for both of you for the sake of App and Music purchases, and completely separate IDs for your iCloud accounts. You set one in the iCloud prefs, and the other in the iTunes prefs.
My wife and I have completely separate iCloud accounts, but we both share the same Apple ID for music and app purchases on our Macs and iPhones. Works perfectly fine.
