Dave, we were having that discussion when he retired.. What would happen to Apple if Steve died. We came to the conclusion that he would have product line/plans extending well into the future. This looks like proof to me.

It's funny that people think this is something unique to Steve Jobs. Most every tech company works on things that the general public won't see for years.

The only difference here is that most companies are working on things today that people asked for/wanted yesterday - whereas Apple is busy working on things today that most people don't even know they want yet!

Agreed. If this is any indication of the normal product development time line then we will be seeing insanely great Apple products for quite some time even if they can't come up with anything w/o Steve. (which is unlikely, but not impossible).

I think I heard during a Keynote from Jobs him self.
Apple was working on the iPad for years - then the iPhone pop in their heads and launched that first. Which makes sense to me to shelve the iPad for another few years
