Hey so I just got an old G3 ibook given to me and I think its one of those with the clear case and white paint. Im thinking about one of these days clearing it and spraying it with some translucent blue to match my custom blueberry G4 but ive never worked with translucent paint and I think it may be hard to paint on even. The factory paint on the G4 tower looked nice but when I took the panels off and looked through them at the light I could see where it was uneven so im thinking its harder to make something translucent look good. anyone had any expirence with this?
sometime back I got a G3 real cheap on the net and just swapped the blue panels with the G4 along with clearing the sides and adding 2 120mm fans. which is kinda overkill since I never upgraded the processor.
If it’s clear with a white layer inside (like so many Apple products have been) then I bet it would look great if you painted (even some opaque color) INSIDE the clear case instead of outside. It would keep the original “glassy” look. You might have to strip off white paint from the inside first; but I could have sworn I saw instructions on the ‘net somewhere for doing that. Ages ago.
